Privacy Policy
TapVoice is built local-first. This page explains, plainly, what the app does with your data.
What TapVoice stores locally, on your own machine
- Background activity memory — TapVoice quietly captures text you interact with to build a searchable history that powers F7's context-aware replies. Stored in a local database, encrypted at rest (SQLCipher, AES-256), with the encryption key tied to your own Windows login.
- Entities — names of people, projects, tools, and topics extracted from your captured history, so F7 can recognize recurring context.
- Search index — a local "meaning search" index (embeddings) built entirely on your own device — no cloud service is involved.
None of the above ever leaves your computer, except where explicitly noted below.
What gets sent to a cloud provider, and when
TapVoice uses third-party AI providers to power its features. Each only happens when you actively use the corresponding feature:
| Feature | What's sent | Sent to |
|---|---|---|
| F8 (voice dictation) | Your speech audio | Groq (Whisper) |
| F8 (Smart Formatting) | Your transcribed text | Groq |
| F9 (AI chat) | Your question | Groq or Claude (your setting) |
| F7 (reply drafting) | On-screen content + context | Groq or Claude (same setting) |
| Entity extraction | Batches of captured text | Claude |
TapVoice does not operate its own servers that store or process this data — requests go directly from your device to the provider you've configured, using your own API key. We do not have access to your API keys or the content of your requests.
Please review Groq's and Anthropic's own privacy policies for how they handle data sent via their APIs.
Your controls
- Pause background capture at any time from Settings.
- Exclude specific apps or window titles from ever being captured.
- Delete your local database anytime by removing it from your app data folder.
What we do NOT do
- We do not sell or share your data with third parties.
- We do not run a backend server that logs your activity — TapVoice talks directly to the AI providers you configure.
- We do not require an account or any personal information to use TapVoice.
Changes to this policy
If TapVoice's architecture changes (for example, a future managed/subscription version), this policy will be updated and the change made clear at that time.
